Enjoy with variety of Birds and Marshland at Rasikbil,Dooars

Rasikbil or Rasikbeel is situated in the Cooch Behar district of West Bengal, India. It is basically low water land or swamp, where water may be available all over the year. There are five such a kind of low water land or marshland, namely, Neeldaba, Bochamari, Raichangmari, Shankhadanga and Rasikbil. These attracts a lot of birds which make nests in the trees around the lake. There are 1 bird sanctuary near Cooch Behar a city just 38 km from Dooars and 1 bird sanctuary near Aritar which is 38 km distant. The most popular of these are Rasikbil Bird Sanctuary near Cooch Behar and Kitam Bird Sanctuary in Aritar. You can find 3 bird sanctuaries in West Bengal and 39 bird sanctuaries in the country of India. The bird varieties which live in and around the lake includes cormorants, different varieties of storks, ibis, spoonbill, kingfisher, parrots, owl and many others. There is a deer park and a crocodile rehabilitation center by the side of the lake. There are also a leopard house, a python house, Aviary & a Tortoise rescue entre. This following water birds found in Rasik Beel- Lesser Whistling Teal, Common Teal, White eyed pochard, Red Crested pochard, Shoveler, Pintail, Wigeon duck, Grey headed Lapwing, Northern Lapwing, Pied Kingfisher, Stork billed kingfisher, Small blue kingfisher, Little Cormorant, Large Cormorant, Gadwall etc.

Attractions in Rasikbil :



Tourists who loved to watch the local birds and migratory birds; Rasik Bill is the ideal place for them. It is a eco-tourist spot situated just one and a half hour of drive from Alipurduar town. Main attraction of that area is anvifauna in and around Rasikbil. And as a bonus, there are a large aquarium, a dear park, a crocodile rehabilitation center, a tortoise rescue center and many more. And you can enjoy boating in the Rasikbil.



 From Rasik bil, you can go on a day visit to the famous Buxa Tiger Reserve. Rasikbil itself is part of the buffer area of the tiger reserve. Coochbehar Rajbari  and Madanmohan Temple are famous among them. The historically significant town of Coochbehar can also be visited on a day outing.

How to Reach Rasikbil :


By Road :

National Highway No.31 between Siliguri and Guwahati passes over Coochbehar and Alipurduar. But there has no any direct journey from Siliguri. So you should follow break journey. North Bengal State Transport Corporation Buses, Bhutan Govt. Buses, Mini Buses, Private Buses and Taxi are available from Siliguri to Coochbehar or Alipurduar. Then you may take the Coochbehar - Rampurhat mini bus which will take you to Rasikbil via Toofanganj in 2 hours. You will also get buses from Alipurduar. You may also go to Rasikbil via Kamakshaguri.


By Railway :

Nearest railway station to Rasikbil is Kamashkhaguri. Kamashkhaguri is 6 kilometer away from Rasikbil. Some trains have stoppage at Kamashkhaguri which train is going towards Guwahati from Kolkata or other metro city of India. New Jalpaiguri and Siliguri Railway Station are main railway station in this area. After you arrive at New Jalpaiguri or Siliguri, you should follow the road journey to reach at Rasikbil. Coochbehar is another near by railway station of Rasikbil.


By Air :

Nearest airport is Bagdogra. It is a domestic airport. All major air services are available from all over India. Distance between Bagdogra and Siliguri is 13 km. You can find out various vehicles to come in Siliguri, and then follow the above road route.

Best time to visit Rasikbil :

The best time to visit Rashikbill is from March to June and from September to December as during these times the place is in good favor of weather. If you are fond of birdwatching then the best tie to visit Rashikbeel to see migratory birds nesting here is between October and February.
