Destination of Historic Old Fort of Nal King at Jalpaiguri

Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary is located at foothills of the Eastern Himalayas. They lie along the bank of Torsa River and are quite near to the city of Siliguri. The place was declared a sanctuary in the year 1943 so as to safeguard the wildlife of the area. The sanctuary covers a vast area of around 216sq.kms, which abounds in natural vegetation cover. 

Jalpaiguri has great tourism potential which still lies untapped; the wild currents of Teesta, Torsa and Sankosh asserting its way through the gorges; vast stretches of wilderness with the backdrop of the Himalayas; rolling acres of tea estates and colorful tribal peoples makes it an ideal place for holiday makers and adventure lovers. The major forests of the region including Jaldapara, Gorumara, Chapramari etc. falls under the Jalpaiguri district. A number of large and small rivers pass through the district including Teesta, Jaldakha, Diana, Torsha, Neora, Murti etc. The district is also famous for its tea gardens. There are a large number of tea gardens producing the famous 'Dooars Tea'.

Old Fort of Nal King

Hidden deep inside the Chilapata Forests the ruins of a thousand years old fort of Nal King has a tremendous historical and archeological importance. The ruins of the fort of Nal King that dates back around thousand years has a special appal on tourists for its immense historical and archaeological importance. The remnant consists of a wrecked wall and a broken gate of the fort. The fort was built around 5th century during the reign of Gupta empire. The forest bordering the fort features a unique tree that bleeds like human.

Air : The closest airport is situated at Bagdogra, which is at a distance of 140kms from the sanctuary.

Rail Way : The closest railway station is situated at New Jalpaiguri.

Road : The sanctuary is well connected by road to major places like Siliguri , Bagdogra etc.
