At a distance of about of 58 kms from Darjeeling & perched on a high ridge of 3636m lies Sandakphu, a trekkers paradise. Sandakphu is known as the best trek destination in Darjeeling himalaya. It is the highest peak in the Singalila range. Sandakphu can ideally be called as the only vantage point in India from where 1 can view 4 of the 5 highest peaks in the world which includes-Everest, Kanchenzonga, Makalu, Lhotse in a continuous snow clad arc Sandakphu is accessible by a rough jeep track on which ply vintage Land Rovers dating back to World War II. The only alternative to reach Sandakphu is to trek. Sandakphu which means Height of the poison plant refers directly to the poisonous  Aconite plants which grows near the peak in abundance. A variety of Magnolias, Rhododendrons, primulas, & other sub-alpine flowers are found in abundance in the Sandakphu region. It is also the only geographical area in the world where over 600 varieties of Orchids are found. Except the monsoon seasons of July-Aug Sadakphu can be visited any time during the year.

Sandakphu offers you an incredible view of the world's five highest peaks, the spectacular 8000 m magnificence-  Everest, Kanchenjunga, Makalu and Lhotse in a continuous snow-clad curve. Besides these the adjoining peaks are also clearly visible-  Napse, Koktang, Janu, Kumbhakarna, Kabru South, Kabru North, Pandim, Narsing, Naulekh, Chamlang and Dom Makheri. In the months of April and May an abundance of flowers make Sandakphu even more beautiful.

Kalpokhri :

Kalpokhri, at a height of 3170 m. Here you should visit the Singhalila National Park. SGNP is the only place in India where red pandas can be found, besides it also has a checklist of about 160 species of birds. One of the best things about these treks is the fun of disconnecting yourself completely to the world and hibernating in a true sense. With great landscapes, beautiful view of mountains and valleys on both sides.



Singalila National Park :

Singalila National Park is a national park of India located on the Singalila Ridge at an altitude of more than 7000 feet above sea level, in the Darjeeling district. It was initially a wild life sanctuary and later made into a national park in 1992. The whole of Singalila range and the national park has long been part of the trekking route to Sandakphu and Phalut. There is also a gravel road for jeeps that goes through the park up to Sandakphu.
