Jhalong, The Beautiful Tourist Destinations Besides River

Jhalong is a lesser-trodden offbeat wonder of Dooars Himalayan foothills a nice scenic beauty. It is situated on the bank of Jaldhaka river on the way to Bindu in Kalimpong Sub-division. Jhalong is 103 km by road from Siliguri. Jhalong is a paradise for bird watchers. Eurasian wryneck, crested kingfisher, brown dipper, Hodgson's redstart, slaty-backed forktail, little forktail, Rufous-necked laughing thrush are some of the rare species found here.

Major Attraction at Jhalong:

Bindu: A small picturesque hill village on the Indo-Bhutan border. Bindu is a little known tourist destination in lower Kalimpong foothills. Bindu is scenically placed among the high mountains all around with Jaldhaka River. Everywhere surrounded by hills, picturesque houses, village market, orchid and flower garden – all these make Bindu beautiful throughout the year. Here three rivers Ni Chu, Dhi Chu and Bindu Chu have met with Jaldhaka.

Todey and Tangta: These are two small villages ahead of Bindu in the Neora Valley National Park area. The area is famous for cardamom production. Todey Tangta can be visited based in Bindu or Jhalong from where Todey village is about an hours drive through Paren. There is a Monastery at Todey which is a small market consisting of about 30 households. The area is also known for medicinal plants with a large medicinal garden known as Chamelidevi Ayurvedic Garden near the Village.

Jaldhaka Valley: Jaldhaka valley is a prominent tourist destination, in the Kalimpong sub-division of West Bengal. This valley is situated at a height of over 1,500 feet above sea level. The Jaldhaka River flows near Jhalong and a hydroelectric project has also been started lately. The reservoir of the Dam is a refuge for vast species of birds.

Paren: Another small village besides Jaldhaka river located midway between Bindu and Jhalong. There is a forest bungalow at Paren where tourist may stay. Some private tourist accommodations have also come up in the area in the recent past.
