Enjoy mountaineering expeditions and treks at Yuksom

Yuksom is a historical town in Geyzing subdivision of West Sikkim district in the Northeast Indian state of Sikkim. It was the first capital of Sikkim established in 1642 AD by Phuntsog Namgyal who was the first Chogyal of Sikkim. This high altitude alpine trek passes through exquisite landscapes, dense Rhododendron forest.  Dzongri or to Goechala at a height of 18,000 feet is a moderate trek and is mesmerizing. Yuksom literally means the meeting place of the three wise / superior ones.

Seven Sisters Waterfalls: It is located 32 kilometers away from Gangtok on the National Highway leading to North Sikkim. To facilitate the tourists to savour the pristine beauty and to be with nature, Tourism Department has set up a waiting shed and cafeteria where they can take a break and shoot pictures. A must see picturesque beauty of nature.

Khangchendzonga Waterfalls: It is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Sikkim and is normally active throughout the year. On way to Yuksom, it is a place not to be missed by the tourists for its breathtaking beauty of a wild torrent of water cascading down granite rocks. It is an amazing sight and most visitors stop to marvel at this great symbiosis of sound and sight.

Rock Garden: The Rock Garden lies between Namchi and Samdruptse. It has a lot of plants, flowers and trees. The garden also has several waiting sheds and beautiful view points too. It also has a cafeteria which serves tea and coffee to the travellers who stop to take rest during their trips.




How to Reach Yuksom….

By Air – The closest air port is at Bagdogra, which is 175 kilometers from Yuksom and connected by Air with all important Indian metros. Bagdogra airport is well connected with the rest of India. There are daily flights to Delhi and Kolkata.

By Railway – The nearest railhead is at New Jalpaiguri which is 180 kilometers from Yuksom. NJP is well connected with all major cities in India. New Jalpaiguri Station is well connected with the rest of India. Trains to Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Guwahati, Bangalore, etc are regular.

By Road – Yuksom is 150 kilometers from the state capital Gangtok and about 170 kilometers from Siliguri. It is connected with Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Siliguri by the national highway 31 A. Sikkim Nationalized Transport plies regular bus services between Gangtok and Pelling. Private buses, taxis and jeeps are also available.
