Explore Indian Wildlife at Chilapata Forest





The Chilapata Forest is a dense forest near Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary in Dooars, Jalpaiguri District. It is located near the Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary in Dooars and is easily accessible from the town of Hasimara. It is an elephant corridor between the Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary and Buxa Tiger Reserve. The forest has a rich population of Indian rhinoceros, along with many other animals and birds. The range of thick vegetation with varied flora and fauna and the aura will definitely attract persons who love forests.

Nalraja Garh

The fort of the Nal kings. The fort was built during the Gupta period in the fifth century, although the fort itself is in ruins now, it has tremendous archeological importance and reminds one of the golden age in the history of India. The site is not maintained very well and wildlife sighting at this place is not unusual.



Raja Bhat Khawa 


There is also some history attached to it where deep inside the forest, Local King's (Nal Raja) brother had stationed a secret garrison to fight the King of Bhutan. The place was abandoned after the both the kings entered into a friendship pact at Rajabathkawa. 



Jalpesh Shiva Temple

This temple is dedicated to Lord Jalpeswara (Siva). The temple was built in a style akin to Islamic architecture. Inside, there is a Shivling called Anadi. Mahashivaratri is the main festival celebrated in this temple.



Sikiajhora

Sikiajhora is situated in North Panialguri of Alipurduar subdivision. Construction of a boating complex is on the anvil as the embankment over the Sikiajhora River is complete. This river flows through the Damanpur range in the Buxa Tiger Reserve.

Bagdogra around 147kms from Chilapata Forest is the nearest airport.

By Railway :




The nearest railhead is Alipurduar in the district of Jalpaiguri, situated 25 KM from the Chilapata National Park. New Jalpaiguri (NJP) station is one of major railhead for tourist to enter into the Dooars Region.
