Enjoy with Beautiful Natural Resources at North Bengal Dooars Forest

North Bengal is the Northern part of the state of West Bengal in India. The area is strategicaly located with Nepal, Bhutan and Sikkim in the North, the Gangetic Bengal on the South, Bangladesh and Assam on the East and Bihar on the West. North Bengal comprising the districts of Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Dinajpur and Cooch Behar lies at the foothill of the great Himalayas. The area covers the moist and dense riverine forests of the Bengal Dooars and the stark foothills of the snow-capped Kanchenjunga range.

The unique climatic and ecological conditions makes North Bengal an unique home for a large variety of mega-fauna & superb restricted bird species. Bhutan and Nepal are two beautiful countries having an easy access from North Bengal. Sikkim previously an independent country joined union of India later on as one of its states. All these three beautiful places are all adjacent to parts of North Bengal. Traditionally Darjeeling – Kalimpong - Kurseong had been the principle tourist destination of North Bengal since the British era. During the early 90’s Lava-lolegaon-Rishyop are also came into prominence. Since the middle of 90’s Dooars has also started gaining tourist interest.

Dooars:

Dooars are situated in the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas. The biggest river of North Bengal is “TEESTA”. The foothills of eastern Himalayas are divided into two parts by the river Teesta. These two parts are known as Tarai & Dooars. The western part of the river Teesta is called “TARAI” and eastern part is called “DOOARS”. The Dooars valley is specially noted for wildlife sanctuaries, the most important of which are the  Gorumara National Park, Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary, Buxa Tiger Reserve. The vast texture of massive trees sheltering varieties of orchids and the forests resounded with songs of birds and call of wild animals make it a veritable paradise for lovers of nature and eco-tourism.

Best time to visit:

Dooars can be visited any time of the year. The monsoon months are especially attractive as the forests are at their greenest best during this time. Watching the rain can itself be your reason to visit Dooars during the monsoon months.

  1. As you says that “The monsoon months are especially attractive as the forests are at their greenest best during this time” but you can't forget that major parts of the lands and all forests are closed for monsoons. So, it would be better if you chose summer or winter to visits here.
