Visit the Greenery of Nature at Chapramari, a Beautiful Jungle in Dooars


The Chapramari wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the foothills of Eastern Himalayas in the district of Jalpaiguri. near the NH31 connecting north-east with the rest of India.It can be approached by road from Siliguri or Jalpaiguri. It is 70 km from Jalpaiguri and approx 20 kms away from Gorumara National Park. A huge variety of flora and fauna covers the forests.



This wildlife Sanctuary is filled with dense greenery which provides a natural home to the animals and birds living here. With very tall trees and thick bower of greenery, this sanctuary is a wildlife heaven. In 1895, it was declared as Reserve Forest by the British Government. In 1998, it was declared as Wildlife Sanctuary.



Chapramari Sanctuary is in the Khunia beat and is famous for Bison and Elephant herds. With fascinating diversity of flora and fauna and the vast texture of massive trees sheltering varieties of orchids will definitely impress the guest. The watchtower is the best place to observe wild animals as they visit the salt pit near the water body prepared close to the watchtower. Most common animals in the area are one horned Indian rhino, Elephant, Indian Bison, Leopards and deer.


Nearby Places of Tourist Interest:



Further North of Chapramari is the Bhutan – Dooars boarder villages of Jaldhaka, Paren, Bindu and Jhalong. The area has gained in prominence as tourist destination and can be visited from Chapramari within an hour. Once can also visit the beautiful tea gardens of Jiti and Hila above Nagrakata here. Gorumara in the South is easily accessible. Gorumara offers a large number of forest visit options and attracts the largest number of tourists in Dooars. Further east from Chapramari is Jaldapara forest about an hours drive from here.



How to Reach: If you are travelling by train, Chalsa is the nearest station about 10 km from the forest. But few trains stop here. Malbazar 7 km further is stop of a few more trains including an intercity express and a train connecting Kolkata. New Jalpaiguri, the most important station or the area is about 70 kms and 1.5 hours drive. Bagdogra is the nearest airport. Road connectivity is excellent with all other major places of the region. Most tourists prefer to get down at NJP or Bagdogra and take a cab to visit Chapramari.



If you love nature, then this is your place. As soon as you enter the forest, you will see a wide variety of trees like aamloki, rudrapalash, rubber trees, rupasi and others.
