Darjeeling
is a town in the Indian state of West Bengal. A popular tourist destination, it
is located in the Mahabharat Range or Lesser Himalaya at an average elevation
of 6,710 ft. Darjeeling to Kalimpong is 47 km. Time by road is 1 hr, 10 mins.
King's ministers strong hold a Bhutanese word. It is also called Kalimpong in
local dialect meaning "black spur". As per the Lepchas Kalimpong
means 'Ridge Where we play'. It is said that these local tribesman used to
organise field sports while not engaged in agricultural pursuit. The main town
of Kalimpong is only 6 kms from Delo Hill. Spending a weekend savoring the
majestic views of the Himalayas and lazing around the gardens is the usual
activity you can enjoy here.
Darjeeling: Darjeeling is a

Kalimpong: Kalimpong is a
town in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal. This small hillstation was an
important link in the trade route between India and Tibet commonly known as the
silk route. The town and its surrounding area was ruled by Bhutan for about a
century and a half before it was annexed by the British in 1865. Deolo and
Durpin are the two must see places in the town. The town is on a ridge
connecting the two peaks of Deolo and Durpin. Both places offer excellent view
of the mountains including the Kanchenjunga range as well as Teesta River
below.
Delo: You have to travel
about 15 minutes from Kalimpong towards Algarah and then take a left road and
travel another 15 minutes to reach Deolo. There is a Tourist Bungalow where
overnight accommodation is available. You can also try the attached restaurant
that offers gourmet food. Apart from excellent view of the surrounding, a large
well maintained garden spread over several acres attracts tourists as well as
locals here. There is a huge statue of Lord Hanuman near Delo. You would also
find a very nice statue of Lord Buddha on the way while returning from Delo to
Kalimpong. There is also the Lepcha Museum & Monastery situated in nearby
Big Dhara which showcases everything about the Lepcha community and culture.

Airport: The nearest
airport to Darjeeling is Bagdogra which is approximately 95 km away from the
city.
Rail: The nearest
railway station to Darjeeling is New Jalpaiguri which connects the city with
all the major parts of the country.
Road: Darjeeling is
located close to New Jalpaiguri and easily accessible via rail and road. There
is direct train from New Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling taking approximately 7 hours.
