On This New Year 2014 Explore the Beauty of Terai Dooars at Murti

Murti is the name of a river flowing down from the Kalimpong hills. Murti as a place is situated besides the same river between the Chapramari forest and Gorumara National Park.

Murti is a river that originates in the Neora Valley National park and flows through prime tourism area of Dooars before meeting Jaldhaka River. The river reaches the plains at Samsing, further inside Dooars, it divides the continue stretch of forest of Gorumara. The forest on the left bank being called Chapramari forests and the forest on the right bank known as Gorumara. Further downstream, it meets river Jaldhaka and enters Bangladesh near Mathabhanga. Inside Bangladesh the Jaldhaka River meets mighty Brahmaputra.

Places to see in Murti:

You can visit the interior of Gorumara National Park staying at Murti. On the other side of the river at a short distance is Panjhora River. This is a common site for picnickers during the winter months.

The entire Dooars range of forests can be reached from Murti. Forests like Gorumara, Chapramari, Chukchukia, Khunia and Chalsa are all nearby. You can also visit nearby hill destinations like Jhalong, Bindu and Paren. Samsing, Suntaleykhola and few other spots like Mouchuki marking the fringes of other jungles like Neora Valley N.P are also located nearby.

Murti is a haven for bird watchers and birders, as this is a popular tourist activity here. You can also take some time off and hike in the surrounding region. Camping out is another popular activity in Murti. You can take a walk through the jungles surrounding the place too. Murti also serves as the base for the Gorumura National Park, which lies very near the region. This park has many species of birds and animals that are rare, and these can be spotted by taking a guided tour through the national park.

Murti itself has a lot to offer for nature lovers. If you are lucky you can see Gharials in the river. Elephants are also known to frequent around here. Gaur (Indian Bison) and Deer is also commonly sighted in the area.

How to reach Murti:

You can reach Murti from New Mall Junction Railway Station. If you are traveling by air, then the nearest airport is at Bagdogra from where you can hire cars to reach Murti. Murti can also be reached from Siliguri or New Jalpaiguri Station by hiring cars.
