Enjoy weekend at “Kurseong”- Land of the White Orchids

Kurseong is a hill station (and sub-divisional town) situated in Darjeeling district of West Bengal, India. Located at an altitude of 1458 metres (4864 ft), Kurseong is just 30 km from Darjeeling. It has a pleasant climate throughout the year and the winters are not as severe as Darjeeling.

The local name of Kurseong is called "Kharsang" which in the Lepcha language means "Land of the White Orchids".

The terraced tea gardens, orchid nurseries, and verdant hill slopes are best explored either on foot or by the Toy Train which runs from New Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling.

Kurseong was transferred to the British in 1835 by the King of Sikkim. The town gained importance only after 1880 although Darjeeling took away the larger share of tourism. It is home to some reputed schools such as Goethals, Victoria and Dow Hill. Kurseong is a nature lover's paradise and offers some interesting treks.

Kurseong Near By Places :

Eagle’s Craig view point:

This view point is located near the town seemingly perched on a cliff. One can have a sweeping view of the surrounding mountain, hill, hamlets and slopes from here. It has a cafeteria, a watch tower and a flower garden; this place also houses the water reservoir for the entire town of Kurseong.

Forest Museum :

The forest museum is a treat for nature lovers and the ecotourist. Located on Dow Hill, the museum is maintained by the forest department and gives you rare insight into the flora and fauna that inhabit the region.

Giddapahar view point :

Provides a glimpse of the British era with its architecture and elegance. This school is well known for its beautiful location surrounded by pine trees and the quality of education it provides.

Victoria Boy's School:

This school was also created by the British and still maintains its Victorian looks and fame.

Grotto:

The grotto houses the statue of Virgin Mary and is located in a beautiful surrounding that takes you to another place and time. It is a peaceful place and peace is what you feel when you are there. Devotees light candles and pray to God here; it is also frequented by young couples because it offers seclusion.

Even today, though the lake is relatively unknown to tourists, local people from the nearby areas come here to enjoy a pleasant evening and the beauty of the lake and the surroundings.

Bagora:

Bagora, a quaint village, located at a height of 7100 ft., in the Darjeeling district, is not yet explored and hence it still remains unexploited. Nestled amidst serene and exotic scenery with majestic views of Mt. Kanchenjungha, this romantic getaway will not disappoint you. Bagora is also called Zero Point and has a base camp of the Indian Air Force with a helipad.

Enjoy 'Cultural Revolution' in the Hills with Greenchillitourism

Culture in general refers to patterns of human activity and the symbolic structures that give such activities significance and importance. Cultures are unwritten systems of symbols and meanings that lack fixed boundaries, that are constantly in flux and that interact and compete with one another.

The 'Cultural Revolution' in the Hills offers to show visitors and tourists the ethnicity of the people of the Darjeeling Hills.

Darjeeling is a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-lingual region. It accommodates within its geographical boundary heterogeneous social groups with diverse history, society, culture and tradition. Under such a dynamic situation, autochthonous group like the Lepchas felt/feel offended by such a move as they have their own traditional history and culture. Similarly, other social groups like the Bhutias, Marwaris, Biharis and Bengalis residing in and around the Darjeeling hills were/are not either happy with such a move.

You can find lots of cultural programs their one of the most popular is "Daura-Suruwal, or Daura Suruwal", is a national costume of Nepal, which is worn by males.[1] It is also worn by the people of neighboring Sikkim and Darjeeling. The equivalent female national costume is the Gunyou Cholo. Daura Suruwal has been national dress of Nepal from many years. It is also known as “Labeda Suruwal”. The dress has been wore by Nepali men from centuries.

When we making plan about our holidays think about the Nepali folk dances, music and cuisine of the people, we can get lots of enjoyment with little money in Northern part of West Bengal/North Bengal or in Nepal so why you choose another region/country for the holidays think about one minute. GREENCHILLI offers warm welcome for the more advance adventures and natural beauties with tradition.
